Baby Name Tips

*Reminder: These are naming tips. You are the ultimate decider. These are just suggestions to take into consideration when naming your baby. Nothing is rule, absolute, or says that you have to comply. It’s your baby and your choice .

Greetings!!! Hope you are having a wonderful day! Here are some tips on naming your baby. When you are naming your baby, you are naming more than just the baby. You are creating an image that you want the baby to uphold. You should be mindful, conscientious, and aware of the importance of a name and the stigmas that come along with it. Here are some little tips you should take into consideration when naming your child:

1. Give your child a formal name-Yes you may love the name Kate, Becky, or Beth, but you should give your child a formal name.  Try Katherine, Katarina, Rebecca, or Bethany. Instead of the shorten version. Nicknames are fine, but your child should have a formal name. Also steer away from nicknames as first names: Skip, Chip, Scout, and Buck are very informal.

2. Steer away from names that have negative connotations. Really research the name. You wouldn’t want to name your child Jezebel. Jezebel has a negative connotation in the bible.

3. Stick to Legit names. No made up names with apostrophes, hyphens, unique spellings. Stick to traditional spellings.

4. The unisex trend is growing. Girls are now Camryn, Aubrey, Kendall, etc traditional male names that are on females. Keep it in moderation. Try not to name your little girl James or your son Amy. It’s getting a little extreme. If you aren’t seeking an ultra feminine name, there are legitimate girl names that aren’t frilly.

5. Select names that age well. Your child isn’t going to be a little one forever so make sure you choose a name that ages well. And don’t do the opposite. Don’t age the kid before it’s time.

6. Really chose something that will flow. First middle and lastname. Stay away from alliterations, rhymey, and sing songy names. They can  be tongue twisters.  Make sure the names are balanced. Magdalena Machilingo would be a mouthful. If you have a long or unique lastname try pairing it up with a  simple, short, or recognizable first name. A hard first name and last name may cause misery for your kid. Also the syllables. One syllable first names do great with 2 and three syllable middle names, and 2 syllable first names do great with 1 syllable middle names .

7. Surnames as first names. Some surnames won’t work as firstnames.I understand you want to honor your maiden name or family names. But make sure it works

8. Spiritual names. Blessing,  Spirit, Divine, etc are not names. You could try names that include the meaning.  Like Theodore means God’s Gift.

9 . Character names, Scenic names, nature names, color names. Be modest, you are naming a child; a human being.

Well that’s it for now…hope you keep these into consideration when naming your little one…
